From one-man-band to one of the UK’s top brokers

In 2021 and 2022 the prestigious Business Moneyfacts Awards placed us in the top three Invoice Finance Brokers for the Year. 

Were we disappointed that we didn’t win the top spot? To be honest - yes we were. But to put it in perspective, our competitors have been around at least three times as long as us.

Jamie Davies founded JD Capital in 2017, on the back of nearly a decade working in commercial finance. He’d always wanted to work for himself.

Five years on, JD Capital is a respected name in the commercial lending community and well on the way to becoming a market leader. 

There’s plenty of time for us to win the top spot at awards, on search engines and - most importantly - in the choices made by our customers.

It was ‘time’ to start a business with a wrist watch 

From the very start, Jamie understood the importance of having enough cash to run his business. To help raise the capital that he needed to found the business, he chose to sell a valuable wrist watch given as a gift.

The cash from that watch gave him the time and resources necessary to win his first commercial finance customers. Like him, they needed working capital. He was able to find lenders willing to advance them the necessary cash.

Careful cash management has been a hallmark of JD Capital. As the team has grown, so has the size of the offices. From a single desk in a cubby hole, the JD Capital team now has space for growth.

A big future for JD Capital

Jamie makes no secret of having big ambitions for JD Capital and for himself. He’s begun other businesses and launched a podcast.

A lot of his time is spent talking about motivation and mindset in business. He’s keen to keep learning and to apply that knowledge to achieve growth.

His commitment to ongoing learning and improvement is embedded in the culture of JD Capital. The team regularly meet to discuss what’s gone well, and what hasn’t, so they can learn from one another. 

This atmosphere of mutual support and encouragement isn’t common in teams of commercial finance brokers. It’s a distinctive that wins us respect from the commercial lending community and will help us to keep growing.
